Ryan studied Marine Biology at UC Santa Cruz, where his love for animals deepened through hands-on work with marine life. He spent the early part of his career in public aquariums as both an animal caretaker and dive safety officer, experiences that taught him the value of calm focus and teamwork in animal care. Growing up near a neighbor’s barn filled with cats, dogs, horses, and potbellied pigs, Ryan was drawn to animals from an early age and could always be found interacting with every one of them.
When he isn’t at the hospital, Ryan enjoys scuba diving in Monterey with his spouse, flight simulation on his home computer, and practicing traditional archery. At home, he shares life with Tucker, his 7-year-old Staffordshire Lab mix, who has a special talent for knowing exactly when strawberries hit the cutting board—his favorite snack.
